The Bones of the Homeless book with my photographs
and words are simply my small part in joining hearts
and hands with all peoples helping make homelessness, history.
I am a freelance photojournalist and have chosen
to spend my life shedding light on the plight of
the poor dying in increasing numbers all over the earth.
It is dedicated to Mother Teresa, Terry Messman
and Meria Heller.

The Bones of the Homeless

Seeing People eating out of garbage cans and
dying on cold concrete streets made me weep.
I watched as people walked by, pretending
not to see their Mother, Father, Sister and Brother
in each soul crying for help.  I prayed with my
heart, spirit,  mind and body  to die before
ever, ever accepting felllow beings eating
out of garbage cans and dying from neglect.
I wanted to open hearts through
sharing what I see, and Bones of the
Homeless was born..............Judy Jones

Many times, I have published a Judy Jones poem
on the front page of Street Spirit as a testimony
that her poems help reveal the realities of homelessness
at a depth surpassing many of our news articles
on the same subject.

Whole Note Series.  When Judy performed
'Ode to Janis Joplin', it brought the veteran
poets to their knees.  Judy is inspired by

How long we have needed this voice, crying
in the wilderness!  How deeply the distinctly
meaningful prose etches its way into one's
heart.  Have we forgotten?  No!  Nevermore.
For now we can remember the words of the
poet Judy Jones, in her magnificent book;

to live and die in the despair of
homelessness.

           About the Author
       

            
Judy Jones is an artist, photographer,
poet, and librettist; having won
"Brava for Women in the Arts" contest,
with an opera libretto based on the life
of painter Frida Kahlo.  She wrote for the
Coronado Journal newspaper as she traveled
around the world doing volunteer work with
Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charities
and while on the Great Peace March
for Nuclear Disarmament.

'Bones of the Homeless', Judy's first
spoken word/music cd, recorded by
Ray Charles bass player, Curtis Ohlson, includes
many of the poems in 'The Poorest of the Poor',

'The Street Spirit' newspaper in Berkeley
publishes her poems regularly and her
homeless photographs were recently published
in England's 'The Big Issue' magazine.
